HELLO, BANSKÁ ŠTIAVNICA! In the footsteps of the patron saints of mining. A guided walk through the historic centre of Banská Štiavnica. Join us on a unique journey into the history of mining and discover the stories of faith, tradition and protection that accompanied the miners in the depths of the earth. The miners’ unshakeable faith was their mainstay on every descent underground – and on their return to the surface. Each adit was dedicated to a patron saint of mining, whose image at the entrance was meant to ensure safety and good fortune. WHO ARE THEY? The greeting ‘ZDAR BOH!’ was more than just a phrase – it was a wish for a safe return from underground. Miners’ lives were steeped in customs and traditions, intertwined with a belief in supernatural forces. You’ll learn about:• miners’ customs and traditions• the significance of the patron saints of mining• interesting facts from the everyday lives of miners Come and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of old Štiavnica and experience history in a slightly different way.
